Where SuperPlacer keeps its settings, what is in the SuperPlacer Settings window and in the popups, and how to get the defaults back.
Where settings are stored
All SuperPlacer settings are kept in one file of the project:
<project folder>/Saved/Config/WindowsEditor/SuperPlacer.ini
Every project and every user has their own file: it sits in the Saved folder and usually stays out of version control.
Values are saved automatically; there is no Save button.
Hotkeys are kept separately, in the editor's standard shortcut file EditorKeyBindings.ini. See
Hotkeys.
The SuperPlacer Settings window
The general SuperPlacer settings are in the SuperPlacer Settings window. It doesn't open by itself — open it in one of these ways:
- from the editor's main menu: SuperPlacer → Settings;
- with the SuperPlacer Settings button in the mode panel (the SuperPlacer tab of the editor's Modes panel — there is nothing else in it).
The first time, the window opens as a tab next to the Details panel. You can drag it anywhere in the layout or pull it out into a separate window: the editor remembers the place and opens the window there next time. If you leave the tab open, it opens together with the editor. While the window is on screen, the editor spends time drawing it, so close the tab or switch to a neighbouring one when you don't need the settings.
If SuperPlacer is turned off, the window shows a single SP button: it turns SuperPlacer on, and the settings appear.
Groups and defaults:
Editor Modes Coexistence — which editor modes SuperPlacer works on top of:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Enable on Selection Mode | on | Work on top of the standard selection mode. |
| Enable on Modeling Mode | on | Work on top of Modeling Mode. The SuperPlacer gizmo works inside the modeling tools too — see Modeling Mode. |
Settings — the size and position of the buttons in the viewport. Changes show right away.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| UI Size | 1.0 | The overall scale of the Stripe UI and the Column UI, from 0.5 to 2.0. |
| Stripe Vertical Offset | 0 | Moves the Stripe UI down (plus) or up (minus), in pixels. |
| Stripe Horizontal Offset | 0 | Moves the Stripe UI right or left. |
| Column Vertical Offset | 0 | Moves the Column UI down or up. |
| Column Horizontal Offset | 0 | Moves the Column UI right or left. |
The Stripe UI and the Column UI never leave the viewport: an offset that is too large is clamped.
Coordinates
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Include Parent in Ctrl+` | off | Ctrl+` switches between World and Local. With the checkbox on, it cycles World, Local and Parent. Parent is always available in the Stripe UI and in the gizmo menu. |
Touch&Type — how the number input window opens:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Open on Double Click | on | A double click on a gizmo element or a handle opens the window on its field. With the checkbox off, the double click goes to the editor. |
| Open on Number Keys | on | Digits, the + - * / signs and the decimal separator open the window. With the checkbox off, these keys go to the editor — so your own shortcuts on number keys keep working. |
Aim Targets — what the aims (the teleport cones, Look At, Scale to Target) and the drop to the floor hit:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Hit | Geometry | Geometry — what is drawn; Complex Collision — complex collision only; Simple Collision — simple collision only. Quick places the selection by the same value; the same switch is in the RayHit popup. |
| Meshes Without Collision | on | With Geometry, a mesh without collision is a target too. |
| Foliage | off | Foliage instances are targets. With the checkbox off, the aim passes through foliage. |
| Landscape Grass | off | Landscape grass is a target. With the checkbox off, the aim passes through to the landscape. |
| Dynamic Meshes | on | With Geometry, dynamic meshes are hit by their current triangles. |
| Nanite High-Res | on | With Geometry, Nanite meshes are hit by the original detailed mesh. It is built in the background the first time you aim at the asset. |
| Nanite High-Res Budget (MB) | 512 | Memory for the detailed Nanite meshes, from 64 to 8192 MB. |
A hidden object is never a target.
Distribute
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Offer Distribute After Drop | on | After you drop several assets from the Content Browser, show the Distribute button for 3 seconds — it lays the dropped actors out in a grid, see Distribute. |
Settings popups in the Stripe UI
The rest of the settings are in the popups of the Stripe UI and the Column UI. How to open them is described in Interface.
- Snapping (right-click the Snapping group) — the snapping steps for moving, rotating and scaling, the Abs switch (snap to the world grid instead of stepping from where the gesture began), the mouse wheel step and the Target Snapping (vertices / bounds) section: Saved pivots (Ctrl: snap with rotation), Snap radius (px), Dots radius (px). See Snapping, Vertex and Bounds Snapping and Saved pivots as sockets.
- Constraints & RayHit (right-click the Constraints group) — all the settings of the group, each section under its own
header: RayHit, N-Pivot — Surface Normal Tilt, Directional Drop, N-Point — Align To Surface Normal and
Raycast Targets. Four buttons of the group also have popups of their own, each with just that button's sections.
These open only on a right click on the button too:
- RayHit (the Ray Hit Mode button) — Hit: what the Quick ray hits. It is the same switch as Hit in the Aim Targets group of the SuperPlacer Settings window.
- N-Pivot (the Surface Normal Tilt button) — Respect Original Virtual Pivot Rotation, the Hit of the drop rays and the Raycast Targets lists.
- N-Point (the Align Points To Surface Normal button) — the alignment to the normal: Align Power and Axis.
- Directional Drop — the ray's axis, length and lift (Drop Axis, Ray Length, Ray Lift), Hit, Show Drop Rays and the Raycast Targets lists.
- Quick Controls (right-click the Quick Control Mode button in the Column UI) — the steps of the Quick cycle, its own for Place and Transform (on / off, the order, the stitches), Mouse Wheel Rotation Step (the wheel turn step, the same value as Mouse Wheel Step: in the Snapping popup) and the Reset Yaw Every Cycle and Reset Pitch Every Cycle checkboxes. See Quick Mode.
- DPI Settings (gizmo menu → Gizmo Settings or Visual Guides Settings) — the Gizmo and Guides tabs: gizmo size, axis colours, line thickness, the look of the rotation ring, the visibility of the guide lines. What the guide lines show is described in Guide lines.
A setting shown in several popups of the Constraints group is one and the same setting: change it in one popup, and the other shows the new value right away. For example, Hit in the N-Pivot and Directional Drop popups is shared: it decides what the Directional Drop rays (with N-Point) and the Quick ray with N-Pivot on hit. It is separate from Hit in the RayHit popup. The Raycast Targets lists (Exclude / Include) — the actors these rays skip, or the only actors they hit — are also the same in every popup. See Axis Constraints and Directional Drop.
Resetting to defaults
- One value in the gizmo settings. When a value differs from the default, a reset button appears next to the field.
- Hotkeys. The SuperPlacer Hotkeys tab has a reset for each row and a Reset All to Defaults button.
- Everything at once.
- Close the editor.
- Delete the
Saved/Config/WindowsEditor/SuperPlacer.inifile in the project folder. - Start the editor: all SuperPlacer settings are back to their defaults, and so are the positions of torn-off popups.
Delete or edit the file only while the editor is closed. Otherwise the editor writes the current values back into the file when it exits.
